21 dead after bus plunges into river in NE China

CHANGCHUN - A bus plunged into a river after being hit by a heavy-duty truck in Northeast China's Jilin province Saturday morning, killing 21 and leaving more than 20 injured, local authorities said.

The accident occurred at about 9:50 am in Wanliang township of Fusong county when a heavy-duty semi-trailer rammed into a bus in front of it and knocked it down into a river, witnesses said.

Twenty passengers died at the scene and one died later after emergency medical treatment failed.

The injured have all been sent to hospitals.

Local police are investigating the cause of the accident.
