LUQA, Malta - Three chartered planes of China Eastern Airlines left Malta Tuesday, taking home 840 Chinese nationals evacuated from Libya.

The Third plane with 280 evacuees on board took off from Malta International Airport at about 07:30 pm local time (1830GMT), bringing the total number of Chinese nationals back home from Malta to 3,063.

The other two planes with 283 and 277 Chinese nationals on board flew to Shanghai earlier in the day, according to the Chinese Embassy in Malta.

Four chartered flights are expected on Wednesday, the embassy said.

A total of some 4,800 Chinese nationals have been evacuated from Libya to Valletta, capital of Malta, by three chartered cruise ships out of security concerns.
