Foundation set for people-to-people exchanges

BEIJING - China officially announced the establishment of China Foundation for Peace and Development in Beijing Thursday, aiming at scaling up the nation's people-to-people exchanges with the rest of the world.

The new organization is designed to promote and facilitate international exchanges of China's non-governmental bodies with their foreign counterparts.

Sun Jiazheng, president of the foundation, said the foundation will be a major platform to promote China's policy of peaceful development. It will also actively participate in bilateral and multilateral exchanges on major international issues.

The organization will also support China's relevant organizations carrying out international exchange and cooperation, said Sun, also a vice chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC).

The foundation's members include a number of high-ranking officers from a range of Chinese companies.
