Hong Kong's chief justice to visit Beijing

HONG KONG - Geoffrey Ma Tao-li, the Chief Justice of the Court of Final Appeal of China's Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, will leave for Beijing on Monday for a four-day visit at the invitation of the Supreme People's Court (SPC).

The Information Services Department of the Hong Kong SAR government said in a statement that while in Beijing, Ma will meet officials of the SPC, the Supreme People's Procuratorate, the Hong Kong and Macao Affairs Office of the State Council and the Ministry of Justice.

He will also call on the Legislative Affairs Commission and the Basic Law Committee of the National People's Congress Standing Committee.

He will be accompanied by Hong Kong's Permanent Judge of the Court of Final Appeal Patrick Chan and Judiciary Administrator Emma Lau.

Ma will return to Hong Kong on Jan 27.
