Liu Weiping elected governor of Gansu province

LANZHOU - Liu Weiping was elected governor of Northwest China's Gansu province Tuesday.

Born in May 1953, Liu was elected to the post at the fourth session of the 11th Gansu Provincial People's Congress, the local legislative body.

A native of Fujin, in the Northeastern Heilongjiang province, he joined the Communist Party of China (CPC) in January 1974.

He was appointed vice governor and acting governor of Gansu in July last year.

Liu is also an alternate member of the 17th CPC Central Committee.
