4 policemen killed in E China car crash

NANJING - Four policemen were killed and another severely wounded Thursday when their patrol car was hit by a bus on an expressway in east China's Jiangsu Province.

A bus registered in the province's Yangzhou City crashed into the back of the police car at around 2:47 p.m. when its brakes failed on a section of the expressway between Yangzhou City and Liyang City, said a spokesman with Yangzhou's police department.

The injured police officer is still in surgery, he said.

The five officers were on duty when the accident happened.

The police car was registered in the province's Zhenjiang City and was running at a normal speed when the accident happened.

The driver of and passengers aboard the bus are sound.

The accident is under further investigation.
