Chinese premier arrives in India for visit

NEW DELHI - Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao arrived here Wednesday for an official visit to India, in which Wen to hold talks with Indian leaders on bilateral ties and cooperation as well as on international and regional issues of common concern.

Wen will also attend events marking the 60th anniversary of China-India diplomatic ties with his Indian counterpart Manmohan Singh, and meet with Indian people from various circles.

"China-India relations are significant. The leaders of both nations agree that the world has sufficient space for the two emerging economies to grow," Chinese Assistant Foreign Minister Hu Zhengyue told a press briefing on Monday.

Hu expressed the hope that Wen's visit will further boost political mutual trust and understanding while cementing bilateral cooperation in trade and economy.

The two sides are working to enhance governmental cooperation to strengthen coordination concerning international and regional issues, he added.

India is the first leg of Wen's two-nation trip, which will also take him to Pakistan.
