Chinese celebrate National Day on Oct 1 in honor of the founding of the People's Republic of China on Oct 1, 1949. Golden Week refers to two holiday periods on the Chinese calendar –Spring Festival and the National Day period beginning on Oct 1, and many people choose to travel during this period.
