Fire hits Beijing cinema, no casualties reported

BEIJING - A cinema in central Beijing caught fire Saturday afternoon, with no casualties reported.

The blaze erupted at about 3 pm in the Capital Cinema on the 10th floor of the Joy City shopping center in Xidan, a bustling business area in downtown Beijing.

Movie viewers were immediately evacuated and firefighters quickly extinguished the blaze.

An initial investigation found that the power distribution equipment of the cinema caught fire first.

Shopping areas beyond the 9th floor had been cordoned off.
