BEIJING - Heavy fog shrouded China's central and eastern regions Wednesday morning, causing road closures in some areas.

Affected regions included Northeast Liaoning Province, the North China Plain and most regions south of the Yangtze River, the National Meteorological Center (NMC) said.

Visibility in North China's Tianjin Municipality was periodically reduced to less than 100 meters, the local meteorological bureau said. The heavy fog had also led to temporary highway closures there.

The NMC forecast a cold front would hit North and Northeast China over the next three days, bringing high winds and snow. Temperatures would drop by around 4-8 degrees Celsius in North China, it said.
