5.2-magnitude earthquake jolts Tibet

LHASA - An earthquake measuring 5.2 on the Richter scale jolted Damxung County in southwest China's Tibet Autonomous Region at 4:39 pm Beijing Time Tuesday.

The epicenter of the quake was located at 29.8 degrees north latitude and 90.4 degrees east longitude, the China Earthquake Networks Center said. The quake occurred at a depth of 9 kilometers.

Xinhua reporters in downtown Lhasa, capital of Tibet, felt the tremor and said it shook office windows.

Peng Fengshan, director of the earthquake bureau in Tibet, said contact has been made with the local government in Damxung.

Damxung government officials said they were checking the situation in the county's townships and villages. Currently, there are no reports of casualties.
