Tremor hits SW China's Sichuan Province

CHENGDU - A 4.0-magnitude earthquake hit southwest China's Sichuan Province Monday morning and the tremor was felt in the provincial capital Chengdu, the local earthquake bureau said.

The quake struck the border area between Wenchuan County, epicenter of the massive earthquake of May 2008, and Chongzhou City near Chengdu at 10:55 am, with a depth of 18 kilometers.

The epicenter was located at 30.9 degrees north latitude, 103.3 degrees east longitude, according to a statement from the national seismic Network.

The Sichuan earthquake bureau said the quake was an aftershock of the 8.0-magnitude Wenchuan earthquake, which left more than 87,000 people dead or missing and more than 374,640 injured.

The bureau said it had not received any reports of casualties or losses as of midday.

A magnitude-4.7 quake hit central China's Henan Province Sunday afternoon, levelling 24 houses and leaving 12 students injured.
