Temperatures in Northeast China and eastern Shandong province are expected to fall up to 16 C, while Central, East and South China, along with parts of Northwest and Southwest China, will see a 6-12 C drop in temperatures, the NMC said.

Many parts of the country experienced a sharp drop in temperatures over the weekend as a cold wave hit the Inner Mongolia autonomous region and other areas in North and Northeast China.

In Mohe, China's northernmost county in Heilongjiang province, temperatures plummeted to between -20 C and -23 C on Sunday morning, the NMC said.

Following its first cold wave alert of the season on Friday, the NMC issued a second alert on Sunday, advising people to dress warmer, secure gaps on windows and doors and attend to weather reports.

Sleet and snow were forecast for southern Inner Mongolia, central and eastern parts of Gansu province, Qinghai province, the Ningxia Hui autonomous region and parts of North and Northeast China.

Strong winds are expected in these areas, as well as around the Bohai Sea, the Yellow Sea and the northern part of the East China Sea, according to the NMC.
