Fire engulfs chemical plant in E China; casualties unknown

NANJING - A fire engulfed a chemical plant in eastern Chinese city of Nanjing Wednesday, and it is not immediately known whether there were people killed or injured.

A Xinhua reporter at the scene said strong black smokes could be seen and an explosion was heard.

The fire broke out at about 7:40 am and is yet to be put out, witnesses said.
