BEIJING - A car caught fire near Tian'anmen Square in central Beijing Friday, witnesses said.

The car caught fire at about 10:40 am while traveling along Chang'an Avenue, the northern border of the square. Two people were seen getting out of the vehicle subsequently.

Police officers and fire-fighters quickly arrived at the scene to extinguish the blaze.

Police are investigating the cause of the fire.
