BEIJING - The Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee decided Tuesday the Fifth Plenary Session of the 17th CPC Central Committee will convene in Beijing from October 15 to 18.

The decision was made at a Political Bureau meeting, which reviewed the Political Bureau's work since the Fourth Plenary Session held a year ago, according to an official press release from the General Office of the CPC Central Committee.

Hu Jintao, general secretary of the CPC Central Committee, presided over the Political Bureau meeting.

The meeting also discussed proposals for China's 12th Five-Year Program (2011-2015) on national economic and social development.

Many good suggestions were made during the consultation process, while democracy was given full play and the wisdom of the whole of the CPC and all sides involved was put to use, the press release said.

The document, after further revision based on suggestions put forward at Tuesday's meeting, will be reviewed at the Fifth Plenary Session of the 17th CPC Central Committee.

The present and coming years will be key to building a moderately prosperous society and a period to tackle the thorny problem of deepening the reform and opening-up process while accelerating the transformation of the nation's economic development pattern, it was agreed at Tuesday's meeting.

The 12th Five-Year Program should suit the changes in the domestic and international situation and comply with the public's demand for a better life.

Tuesday's meeting also called on CPC members to enhance their awareness of opportunity and risk and adapt themselves to change.
