Panchen Lama prays for mudslide victims

Bainqen Erdini Qoigyijabu, the 11th Panchen Lama, has donated 50,000 yuan to mudslide-hit Zhouqu, Gannan Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture of Gansu through the Buddhist Association of China on Sunday, Tibet.cn reported.

He also extended his condolence to the victims and their families, and chanted prayers for people of all ethnic groups who suffered in the disaster to help them through the tragedy, the report said.

Tibetans account for about a third of the total population in Zhouqu. The massive disaster has already killed 1,248 people as of 4 pm Sunday, with 496 still missing.

The 11th Panchen Lama is also vice president of the Buddhist Association of China.
