Chinese top sports officials COC chief Liu Peng, deputy chief Yu Zaiqing as well as the executive president of Nanjing Youth Olympic Games organizing committee Zhu Shanlu paid a silent tribute to the victims in China House during the inaugural Youth Olympic Games in this city state.

Earlier, the Chinese athletes in the Youth Olympic Village lamented the death of the mudslide victims in the August 8 disaster that left at least 1,200 people dead and 500 missing in Zhouqu County, Gannan Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture.

The Chinese government has declared Sunday a national day of mourning activities.

China fielded a 106-member delegation to the first Youth Olympics that kicked off on Saturday following a water front opening ceremony in Marina Bay.

All the Chinese athletes could find a home away from home in the China House that serves as the temporary base for the COC.

The Games attracted 3,600 athletes aged between 14 and 18 from the world to compete in 26 sports.
