Train derails in North China, 11 dead

HOHHOT -- Eleven people were killed while another one was severely injured in a train derailment at a railway construction site in north China's Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region Friday, local work safety authorities said.

The accident happened at around 9 am when a train carrying stones, which are used to pave the railroad, derailed at the construction site. The new 85-km line is to link Inner Mongolia's Baotou to Mandalt, a border town neighboring Mongolia.

The severely injured person was rushed to the hospital for treatment.

The cause of the accident is under investigation. Local authorities have released no additional details.
