Beijing – China has issued a swift rebuke to US claims it is exploiting UN sanctions against Iran.

“China as a permanent member of the UN Security Council has always carried out UN resolutions seriously. China and Iran’s normal commercial exchanges did not breach any UN resolutions, and will not harm the interest of any other country or the international community.” Chinese Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Jiang Yu told China Daily on Wednesday.

Jiang’s response was to Robert Einhorn, special adviser for nonproliferation and arms control at the US State Department, who on Monday urged China to observe the UN sanctions against Iran over its nuclear program.

The US has asked China to follow western countries’ footsteps to withdraw investment from the Middle East country.
