BEIJING - The China Charity Federation on Tuesday donated 2.3 billion yuan (about $340 million) to the quake zones in China's far Northwestern Qinghai province to help reconstruction.
A further 400 million yuan of the donations would go to social welfare projects, 250 million yuan to infrastructure construction in the quake zones' rural areas, and 50 million yuan to environmental protection programs.
Fan Baojun, President of the China Charity Federation, pledged that the donations would be used in accordance with the donors' requests, and would be subject to supervision.
Zhang Guangrong, deputy governor of Qinghai Province, also said the provincial government would ensure all donations went to reconstruction related projects in the quake zones.
More than 2,200 people were killed and thousands of homes flattened in a 7.1 magnitude earthquake which struck Qinghai's Yushu prefecture on April 14.
