Tibet will apply to the central government for more than 23 million yuan ($3.39 million) to protect the "red relics" (revolutionary sites) this year, with the first batch of construction for protection projects already started, Xinhuanet.com reported on Wednesday.

The protection projects comprise the hall of the Preparatory Committee for the Founding of the Tibet autonomous region, the Langzi Ha Museum and the old meeting room of the Party committee of Gyangze County.

Tibet also plans to apply for more funds during the central government's 12th Five-Year Plan (2011-15) to completely repair the representative office of the People's Central Government in Tibet built in 1965, the gates of the former Tibet Military Area Command, the house of the 13th Dalai Lama at birth in Nangxian county and other red sites.
