BEIJING -- The number of road accidents dropped around 10 percent in China during the first half of this year, according to the Ministry of Public Security.
About 99,000 road accidents took place in China in the first six months of this year, killing 27,000 and injuring 117,000, down by 9.3 percent, 12 percent and 10.6 percent respectively year on year.
A report from the traffic administration under the ministry said death toll attributed to drunk driving declined by 37.5 percent year-on-year in the first six months. This may be due to a nationwide campaign to severely punish drunk driving.
