The National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC) announced Friday on its website that it will carry out a special investigation on the pricing of certain drugs.

Drugs to be investigated include those newly listed in the Catalogue of Drugs for Basic National Medical Insurance and those with the highest fixed retail prices. Nearly 900 types of drugs produced by more than 900 enterprises will be investigated by the Drug Pricing and Evaluation Center for NDRC through check-ups of statements of accounts and financial reports as well as original sales receipts.

The act is believed to be the first step of the nation's crackdown on the recent hike in the prices of those drugs.

NDRC requires local manufacturing enterprises to actively support the investigation, and warns those who refuse to report or delay information that punishment will be meted out according to law.
