A Gallup poll found that 91 percent of Chinese feel they were respected in 2009.
That is a 2 percent increase from 2008.
Family life appeared to have a big impact on how people responded, as the poll found 94 percent of those who believed they were respected agreed that they had a satisfying family life; and among those who didn't, only 81 percent believed they were respected.
Other influencing factors included working conditions, family income, housing conditions and personal health.
