The largest heroin smuggling case in China's history has been cracked, resulting in the seizure of 1,033 kilograms of heroin as well as the arrest of 20 suspects, chinanews.com.cn reported

The disclosure, by Huangpu Customs in Guangdong province, came as officers prepare to destroy the drugs from last year's raid.

In October 2009, Customs seized 545 kilograms of heroin packed in 788 bags and sealed in marbles imported from overseas to a local Zhangzhou company.

Officials immediately formed a task group and thoroughly searched the imported products, leading to three more cases being solved and resulting in another 488 kilograms of heroin being taken off the streets.

All of the drugs are due to be destroyed in Humen in Guangdong on June 25.
