Medication for syphilis treatment will now be free after being included in the medical refund list in a bid to curb the spread of the disease, chinanews.com.cn reported Tuesday.

A document issued by the Ministry of Health will now allow sufferers seeking treatment to get reimbursed for the cost.

The move is in line with the nation's continuing measures battling syphilis, a disease with 327,433 cases reported in 2009 and an annual increase rate of 14.3 percent over the past 10 years, looking to curb the sharp increasing rate within five years and reverse the upward trend in 10 years.
