'Twin village' creates birth mystery

Since the beginning of the 20th century, 26 pairs of twins have been born in Shuangping village of Shiyan city in Central China's Hubei province, the Wuhan Evening News reported Wednesday.

For a village with a population of only 799, this twin phenomenon is a rare event, according to the report.

The first recorded set was born in 1917. In one rare case, a couple gave birth to two pairs of twins successively.

Villages near Shuangping, which have a total population of 2,535, also have more than 10 pairs of twins.
