Fu Hua, former director of industrial management at Shanghai-based China Business News Co Ltd, was sentenced to three years' imprisonment on charges of taking bribes during his tenure by the Beijing No 2 intermediate people's court, Beijing Times reported.

Fu was paid 30,000 yuan ($4,390) in 2005 by Zhang Guangtao, deputy director of the Changchun airport, Jilin province, to uncover the airport's hidden defects and then wrote two overly negative reports about its quality issues.

Zhang paid Fu for the reports as the former was having conflicts with the airport's top boss.

Jilin police detained the journalist in Beijing in June 2007, charging him for taking bribes.

Late last year, Fu was sentenced to three years in jail after the first trial on the bribery crime was held in Beijing's Chaoyang district court.

Fu appealed to a higher court against the sentence but was rejected on Thursday.
