At least 38 people have died and many are missing from a rain-triggered landslide in South China's Guangxi Zhuang autonomous region, the chinanews.com.cn reports today.

The rainstorms, floods and landslides have affected at least 2.1 million people since May 31. Rescue work is underway, and about 80,000 people had been moved to safety by Wednesday evening.

Relief supplies such as tents and quilts have been sent to flooded areas following an emergency response ordered by the regional civil affairs bureau on Wednesday.
