Zhang Yimou takes honorary doctorate at Yale

World-acclaimed Chinese filmmaker Zhang Yimou received his honorary doctoral degree at the 2010 commencement of Yale University on May 24, local time, the chinanews.com.cn reported.

President Richard C. Levin announced Zhang's honor and praised him for portraying China's diversity and glamour vividly through cameras and arts. He spoke highly of the Opening Ceremony of the Beijing Olympic Games in 2008, one of Zhang's excellent works.

"Being a Chinese, I'm very pleased to have this honor," said Zhang at the ceremony. He also said he would concentrate on creating movies and hoped to bring out new works every year.
