Former commerce inspector gets suspended death

Guo Jingyi, former inspector of the department of treaty and law of Ministry of Commerce has been sentenced to death with a two-year reprieve for accepting 8.45 million yuan in bribes.

All his property will be confiscated, the Beijing No 2 Intermediate People's Court announced, the Legal Evening News reported on Thursday.

Guo amassed the fortune from four main bribes, including 1.1 million yuan from Gome to help with a merge during 2004 to 2007, 3.87 million yuan assisting a company avoid examination, 1.23 million yuan helping a company to set up overseas, and 780,000 yuan for abusing his position.
