A 28-year-old pilot who died in a plane crash is being hailed a hero for avoiding a crowded city when his engine failed on May 6, 2010, Jinan Daily reported.
Feng Siguang was flying over Jinan, capital of east China's Shandong province on the night of May 6, with his squadron officer surnamed Zhang when the plane's engine suddenly stopped.
Instead of following his squadron officer and parachuting to safety, Feng decided to maneuver the plane away from a built-up residential area, missing the chance to bail out and sacrificing his own life.
Feng was hailed a martyr by the local government on May 7, 2010.
