BEIJING - A package of about 10 measures will be used to relieve Beijing's traffic congestion, Director of the Municipal Communications Commission Liu Xiaoming said on Saturday.
Liu said the measures included encouraging companies to diversify their office hours, promoting school buses in some areas, improving parking regulations, lessening inconvenience caused by construction projects and limiting vehicles in crowded areas.
By the end of the year, five new subway lines in the outer suburbs should be in use, said Liu. He said new parking lots would be built near the newly-built stations for about 4,000 to 5,000 vehicles at each station. Every station along the new subway lines would also provide spaces for parking about 500 bicycles.
In addition, 36 old trains running on the subway lines 1 and 2 will be replaced with new ones within two years, Liu added.
