Believing that if she stayed at home her parents would not divorce, a student at the University of Nanjing, Jiangsu Province, deliberately stole to be expelled from school.

The student, Luo Yan, an only child, left home for college last year. In October Luo's parents told her they were getting divorced.

Luo was successful in her plan for expulsion but was recently sentenced to three years in prison with four years' probation for stealing.
