SHENYANG -- State Councilor Zhou Yongkang asked the police at the community level to enhance their professionalism on Tuesday in a bid to maintain social stability and promote a harmonious society.

Zhou said the police should brave the challenges and seize opportunities in a fast-developing society to improve their abilities so as to eliminate "disharmonious factors" in society.

Police departments at all levels should study the essence of the Sixth Plenary Session of the 16th Central Committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC) in order to better play the indispensable role of social guardians, Zhou noted.
