Senior Chinese legislator Cheng Siwei met on Tuesday with a trade delegation from the American state of Utah, calling for the two sides to increase cooperation and develop China-U.S. ties.

Cheng, vice-chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress (NPC), China's top legislature, said the bilateral relations between China and the United States have enjoyed sound development in recent years.

Cheng hoped that China and the United States would grasp the opportunity to expand exchanges and cooperation to push for the all-round development of China-U.S. relations.

Governor of Utah Jon M. Huntsman, also head of the trade delegation, said his state would further increase economic and trade cooperation with China, in a bid to make a positive contribution to the development of U.S.-China relations.

Huntsman and his delegation are in China at the invitation of the China Council for the Promotion of International Trade (CCPIT).
