58-year-old woman becomes university student

A 58-year-old woman was recently accepted to a university, fulfilling her 40-year-dream of being a university student, the City Express newspaper reported Thursday.

Tong Zhengguo graduated in 1965 from a junior middle school in Tianjin Tanggu District and has been working since then. Although she has obtained two diplomas from junior colleges through her hard work, she has never forgotten her dream of earning a bachelor's degree.
Tong returned to her alma mater, Tanggu No.1 Middle School, when she was 55 years old to take high school courses, and successfully passed the university entrance exam with 388 points in the arts section after three years of study.
Tong was accepted by the Jinqiao Department of the Kunming University Science and Engineering College in Kunming, capital of southwest China's Yunnan Province. She will major in international economy and trade.
She told the paper she would report to the university on Sept 1, before the new term begins. "Kunming is a city I have visited and like. I will live in the dormitory like other students do," she said. "I have only one request- to live on a lower floor, because I don't have enough energy to climb the stairs."
