Asia's tallest woman receives treatment in Shanghai

Yao Defeng, widely considered as Asia's tallest woman, is helped past a doorway at a hospital in Shanghai Wednesday June 14, 2006. At 2.36-meters (7.74 feet) tall the 34-year-old Yao is 0.1 meter (3.9 inches) taller than the famous NBA star Yao Ming, who is unrelated to her. According to a Chinese website, Yao Defeng is undergoing checks to see if surgery can be performed to remove a benign brain tumour that is causing her gigantism. Yao is suffering complications from high blood pressure, acromegaly, osteoporosis and malnutrition due to the excess growth hormones.[AP]
