Two years ago Xiao Ping suddenly tore a tress of hair from her head while playing in the street, put it in her mouth, chewed and swallowed it. Several hours later, she fell sound asleep for the rest of the day and through the night, Li told the newspaper.

When Xiao Ping finally woke up, she gobbled up four bowls of rice. She usually ate one small bowl. Her sudden monstrous appetite shocked and scared her parents.

Since then, Xiao Ping has frequently felt hungry and feasted on her hair. It was only a matter of days before she ate up all of her long hair and became bald. Surprisingly, nothing abnormal seemed to appear with the skin of her head, even after two years, said Li.

Xiao Ping's teacher told the newspaper Xiao is a lovely girl, but has a hard time keeping up with her classmates in school and finds it difficult to concentrate. Her grades are among the lowest in the class.

At first Xiao Ping was ashamed when her classmates made fun of her hair-eating habit, but as time passed she got used to it. Apart from this strange habit, she is just a normal kid, added the teacher.

According to Chen Xi, a pediatric expert at Chongqing Children's Hospital, Xiao Ping might be suffering from allotriophagy, or a desire for improper food, a disease thought to be caused by organic or psychological changes.

She suggests Xiao Ping be taken to a hospital for a thorough medical check-up.
