"We achieved a lot at the China-Arab Co-operation Forum without a single drop of wine," he added.

"Concrete and substantial efforts are demanded in diplomatic works," he said.

Li invited six ambassadors representing six different Arab countries to the open day to meet a lucky 180-strong legion of individuals aged six to 75 from all walks of life and from around the country, randomly selected by the ministry through online applications.

During the convention in the ministry's symbolic Olive Hall, Li entertained guests by performing an Arab dance with a costumed girl, and drew applause from the crowd.

Held ten times since its launch in 2003, the public day aims at garnering public support.
