A man who married a 12-year-old girl was recently arrested by police for suspected rape, China News Service reported.

The 29-year-old surnamed Cao, a farmer in Jiangxian County of Shanxi Province, bought the teenage wife for 14,000 yuan (US$1,750) last year.

The girl's parents called police recently saying they did not received the promised dowry money and wanted their daughter back. Police began to investigate the case.

Cao is in police custody now and is charged with rape because he had sex with girl under 14 years old.
