Some university students are taking advantage of the updated Marriage Registration Regulation to marry as sophomores and divorce as seniors, not only graduating from school but from their impulsive unions as well.

Updated in 2003, the new version of the marriage regulation allows students to marry, a practice that was previously banned.

When 26-year-old Wang Xiulan, now a senior in a Nanjing university and her husband Cheng Zhigang met at a freshman get-together in 2002, they quickly fell for each other, but were unable to marry.

In 2003, when the new regulation came into effect, the two took the opportunity to legitimize their romance in the eyes of the law and got married.

Easy come, easy go. Their rash union only lasted a little over a year, and ended in separation after money worries and constant spats.

An extramarital affair in which Cheng was caught red-handed by his wife, pushed them apart. Soon after, Wang filed for divorce.
