The Yangzhou Municipal People's Congress Standing Committee discussed the first proposed local regulations protecting the historical and cultural heritage of Yangzhou, East China's Jiangsu Province.

Yangzhou will take its cue from other Jiangsu Provicne cities like Nanjing and Suzhou that have made moves to protect their cultural and historical heritages.

Although Yangzhou heritageis officially under state protection, urban development has threatened to destroy the city in recent years.

The growing popularity of some major sites area like Slend West Llake and Heyuan Garden, which are often used to film TV dramas, also need the creation of protection regulations, official said.

The local government will also focus on implementing the new regulations.
