A man who wants to prove a medical malpractice case has been teaching himself medical science at home for more than seven years in Nanning, the capital of Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region.
He Dingmin, 71, decided to teach himself medical science when his son, He Jun, 40, was left with a disability after receiving treatment from a local hospital after a traffic accident seven years ago.
He Jun suffered a bone fracture in the accident, but was disabled after the hospital operated on him.
The hospital refused to pay compensation, claiming the disability was not the result of medical malpractice.
A local court ruled in favour of the hospital because there was a lack of evidence to support the malpractice claim.
Over the past seven years, He said he has spent more than 60,000 yuan (US$7,500) on medical science books and travelled to big cities to consult medical experts about the case.
He said he plans to sue the hospital again when he can prove it was the hospital that caused his son's disability.
