A Cadillac limousine, once used for state travel by former US president George H.W. Bush, was on public display Sunday at Livan District in Guangzhou, the capital of South China's Guangdong Province.

The luxury car is now owned by a local collector and entrepreneur, who also has dozens of well-known cars like Ferrari, Bentley, and Rolls Royce, and even a mini-battle plane, the Guangzhou-based Information Times reported.

He will also set up an exhibition where the public can view his collection free of charge.

On hearing of the display, many Guangzhou residents immediately came to have a look at the luxury car and take photos.

The enormous 12.2-meter long Cadillac was manufactured in 1989, and is notable for its elegance and distinction. It is thought that the car was sold for around 20 million yuan (US$2.5 million).

Apart from being used as US state car to meet foreign leaders originally, the car also went on to serve as an Arabian magnate's personal vehicle.

Not only has the car appeared at various ceremonies, but also it once successfully protected a leader from an assassination attempt. The car is bullet proof, waterproof and is strong enough to endure earthquakes, and explosions.

Song Xinlin, vice general manager of Guangzhou No.1 International Culture Square, claimed that although bodyguards around the car were seriously wounded or died in the attempt, no senior officials inside the car were injured at all.

"It can withstand any attack," Song added.
