A runaway groom was ordered to pay spiritual compensation to his would-be bride in Kunming of Yunnan Province.

The man surnamed He and his girlfriend Che planned to have a wedding ceremony late last year in Kunming. However, He had a quarrel with the bride's family the night before the wedding. He did not show up to the wedding ceremony the next day, leaving the bride to be the laughingstock of the neighbourhood.

The bride sued the groom recently and a court ordered the groom to pay 60,000 yuan (US$7,500) for damaging the bride's reputation.
