Baby trafficker gets 15 year in prison

A woman was sentenced to 15 years in jail in Qujing, Yunnan Province, yesterday for trafficking eight babies. Authorities have yet to recover five of the babies Li Xiulian traded.

Most of the babies were born beyond the quota, one or two, set by the state family planning policy, an intermediate court of Qujing heard.

Li Xiulian acted as an agent in the sale of eight babies, five of whom have never been recovered. Li earned a profit of up to 1,000 yuan (US$125;euro104) from each baby sold.
