Russia, China support energy diversification - declaration (Interfax) Updated: 2006-03-21 20:18 Russia and China have declared thatenergy
is one of the main components of strategic cooperation betweenthe two countries.
In a joint declaration signed after a meeting between Russian President
Vladimir Putin and Chinese President Hu Jintao, thesides declare that they
plan "to implement a strategy of diversification in the energy sphere."
Moscow and Beijing stress in the declaration that "energydepartments and
companies in the two countries are continuing toactively work to promote
pipeline projects to supply crude oil andnatural gas from Russia to China."
Russia and China in the declaration also support investmentparticipation by companies
in both countries in developing oil and gasresources and developing the
fuel and energy potential of Russia andChina, and also other forms of mutually
beneficial cooperation,including oil and gas refining, oil and gas chemicals,
and thedevelopment of machine building for the fuel and energy complex.In
the declaration the sides also note "the development of cooperation
between interested companies in both countries to graduallyimplement bilateral
energy projects."
Moscow and Beijing note that "this will create conditions for thesigning of
interdepartmental and intergovernmental energy agreements ona long-term and
mutually beneficial basis."
The sides said that this cooperation will help the economies ofboth countries
grow and will strengthen energy security in the Asia-Pacific region and in the
world in general.
The declaration also notes work carried out by electricitycompanies in Russia
and China to promote cooperation for major exportsof electricity from Russia to
China.
