David Chang, chief executive officer of Philips China Updated: 2007-01-08 08:00 For Philips, the slogan "Sense and Simplicity" not only requires the
company to make technology less complicated for consumers, but to build up a
more simple organization by spining-off of its non-core businesses and cutting
its number of legal entities and offices. This does not, however, mean it is
scaling down its expansion plans, says David Chang. Rather, it's looking to grow
in more creative ways. "Innovation should never be limited to research and
development (R&D) stuff," Chang says. "It's everybody's job. It's about
R&D, product design, marketing and even work ethic. The ability of a
marketing guy to find a business opportunity is also a form of
innovation." Earlier last year, Philips China formed its New Business
Development unit, which is staffed by the firm's talent across many different
divisions.
